Alexander Majors House & Barn

One of the first places to look for an affordable wedding venue is somewhere that is operated by a non-profit organization. The Alexander Majors House and Barn is a historic museum and, you guessed it, not for profit!

This landmark mansion was built in 1856 and was once the home of one of the co-owners of the Pony Express. You and your guests will be transported back in time to a simpler Kansas City with this amazing venue.

There are both indoor and outdoor spaces at Alexander Majors House and Barn. You might want to say your vows on the expansive, manicured lawn.

The primary event space for your reception is called The Barn and is a large open area with The Loft space above it. There is another space to the south of the main barn area called the Wagon Room complete with an authentic Conestoga wagon that guests will love!

With micro weddings trending at the moment, you should definitely check out another not-for-profit, Pilgrim Chapel. Run by the Pilgrim Center, this non-denominational church is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

The mission of the Pilgrim Center is to help build a safe community in Kansas City and has been doing so for over 50 years.

Pilgrim Chapel is quaint, yet elegant. Inside the stone chapel, there are traditional wooden pews, antique light fixtures, stained glass windows, and an exposed wood beam ceiling.

The grounds of the chapel are landscape and contain a Pilgrim Labyrinth and Butterfly Garden. The overall vibe is charming and intimate.

Looking for the least expensive venue in Kansas City for your wedding? The Brim is a newer property that offers ceremonies starting at $1. Yes, you read that correctly, one dollar!

Located on 16 acres of hills, yet close to downtown and the airport, The Brim is truly a unique setting that believes in making love stories come to life.

Completed in June 2021, the Brim Chapel is new and modern. The chapel itself has space for 90 seated guests and garage doors that open for a larger crowd.

At the moment, you can have your reception in the chapel or outside under a large tent. The Brim is in the process of building a new reception area that will be completed in June 2023.

Powell Gardens is a part of the Kansas City Botanical Gardens and is the perfect affordable venue for a stunning outdoor wedding. Being a public garden, there are of course plenty of gorgeous flora and fauna to surround yourself with on your big day. With no less than 8 venues to choose from, Powell Gardens is amazing.

For a somewhat more traditional ceremony, you might choose the Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel. Featuring 13-foot doors and 2,550 square feet of glass, this nondenominational chapel is indoors with an outdoor feel.

The nearby Miller Hammond Chapel Study can be used as a bridal suite. The Missouri Barn is located in the Heartland Harvest Gardens and has an observation deck with views of the entire gardens.

The Fountain Garden and the Marlese Lowe Gourley Island Garden are both serene outdoor spaces for your ceremony. Event tents can be set up anywhere in Powell Gardens for your reception.
