“To Make You Feel My Love”

Lyrics you’ll love: “Storms are raging on a rolling sea/Down the highway of regret/The winds of change are blowing wild and free, yeah, huh/But you ain’t seen nothing like me yet/There ain’t nothing that I wouldn’t do/Go to the ends of the earth for you/Make you happy, make your dreams come true/To make you feel my love.”

“To Make You Feel My Love” has been covered by numerous artists over the past 20 years, but Garth Brook’s 1998 cover is one of my favorites. Brooks sings these familiar lyrics with a warmth and sincerity that is moving.

A poignant piano ballad with a simple arrangement and straightforward lyrics, pick this one for your first dance, and you can’t go wrong.

“Stronger Than Me”

Lyrics you’ll love: “She lifts the weight of this whole world off of my shoulders/With nothin’ but the touch of her hand/You know, I always thought I had to have the answers/Be her strength and take the lead/But when it comes to everything that really matters/She’s stronger than me.”

More of a traditional country ballad, “Stronger Than Me” is a beautiful love song. Sung through the eyes of wisdom and experience, this song is about the give and takes necessary in a marriage.

Marriage is a partnership. We have to be able to lean on each other. All of the strength cannot come from one partner to another, “Stronger Than Me” recognizes this truth beautifully. This would be another great option for your first dance.

“Wrapped Up in You”

Lyrics you’ll love: “How do I love you, well let me see/I love you like a lyric loves a melody/Baby, completely wrapped up in you/How do I need you, well can’t you tell/I need you like a penny needs a wishing well/Baby, completely wrapped up in you.”

Fun and upbeat, “Wrapped Up in You” is a charming country tune about how love completes us. The lyrics are cheerful and appreciative, with a little nod to Shakespeare’s famous sonnet: “How Do I Love Thee.”

This would be a perfect song for your cake cutting or recessional. Either way, if you’re a Garth Brooks fan, be sure to add this one to your list.

“Shameless”

Lyrics you’ll love: “You know it should be easy for a man who’s strong/To say he’s sorry or admit when he’s wrong/I’ve never lost anything I ever missed/But I’ve never been in love like this/It’s out of my hands/I’m shameless/I don’t have the power now/I don’t want it anyhow/So I gotta let it go.”

This is how we all want to be loved, completely and utterly without shame, without hesitation.

Some jaded cynics will criticize the depth of devotion that these lyrics embody, but when two people love each other with this level of commitment, it is a beautiful thing.

This is an excellent wedding song for a first dance or maybe even a garter removal.

“Mom”

Lyrics you’ll love: “So hush now baby, don’t you cry/’Cause there’s someone down there waiting for whose only goal in life/Is making sure you’re always gonna be alright/A loving angel tender, tough and strong/It’s almost time to go and meet your mom/You’ll never have a better friend/Or a warmer touch to tuck you in/She’ll kiss your bruises, your bumps and scrapes/And anytime you hurt/Her heart’s gonna break.”

A ballad praising the love of mothers everywhere, “Mom,” is our recommendation for the mother-son dance.

Sweet and endearing, this tender little ballad about the depth of a mother’s love will touch all of your guests’ hearts and remind them to hug their mothers.

“Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House”

Lyrics you’ll love: “She wakes me every mornin’ with a smile and a kiss/Her strong country lovin’ is hard to resist/She’s my easy lovin’ woman, I’m her hard workin’ man, no doubt/Yeah, we’re two of a kind/Workin’ on a full house.”

Another more traditional country song, “Two of a Kind,” is fun and upbeat with just a bit of humor thrown in. The lyrics are playful and perhaps a bit suggestive without being explicit.

One of Brooks’ classic songs, this familiar tune is guaranteed to get your friends and family out on the dance floor.

Consider playing this one near the end of the reception to pep your guests up as the celebration winds down.

“Ain’t Goin Down”

Lyrics you’ll love: “Local country station just a blaring on the radio/Pick him up at seven and they’re headin’ to the rodeo/Momma’s on the front porch screamin’ out her warning/Girl you better get your red head.”

Your playlist needs some party songs, and what better choice than this party anthem, “Ain’t Going Down.”

With the fusion of rock and country that put Brooks on the map, this fast-paced, chart-topping dance song will get your party going in no time.

“Friends In Low Places”

Lyrics you’ll love: “Well, I guess I was wrong, I just don’t belong/But then I’ve been there before/Everything’s all right, I’ll just say good night/And I’ll show myself to the door/Hey, I didn’t mean to/cause a big scene/Just give me an hour and then/Well, I’ll be as high as that ivory tower/That you’re livin’ in.”

In all fairness, the lyrics of “Friends in Low Places” don’t scream wedding song, but it’s a fun Brooks classic that everyone knows and loves. Your guests will recognize it in the first few notes and take it to the dance floor with a wry smile on their lips.

If you’re a Garth Brooks fan, you can put this on your list to be played towards the end of the reception.

“If Tomorrow Never Comes”

Lyrics you’ll love: “If tomorrow never comes/Will she know how much I loved her/Did I try in every way to show her every day/That she’s my only one…Is the love I gave her in the past/Gonna be enough to last.”

Brooks may be known for being one of the first to blend country with rock or pop, but he still had many traditional country songs, “If Tomorrow Never Comes” is one of these.

With an opening that gives Willie Nelson vibes, “If Tomorrow Never Comes” is a warm and endearing country ballad that we recommend for your first dance.

While the lyrics are a bit somber, they are loving and tender, with music that swells to a grand and majestic finish, elevating this ballad and making it a beautiful love song.

“She’s Every Woman”

Lyrics you’ll love: “No it needs no explanation/’Cause it all makes perfect sense/When it comes down to temptation/She’s on both sides of the fence/She’s anything but typical/She’s so unpredictable/Oh but even at her worst it ain’t that bad/She’s as real as real can be/And she’s every fantasy.”

A more contemporary country tune, this cute little love song honors the bride.

While not quite right for the bridal march, this will be an excellent choice to play during the reception. Acknowledging the bride as everything the groom will ever need.
