Today, we’re looking at:
- The best all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Plata for couples—this north-end resort area offers classic accommodations and historic sights
- The best all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana for couples—the east coast is where the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea meet, with long stretches of beach and mega-resorts
- The best all-inclusive resort in La Romana for couples—the less touristy south end offers a more sophisticated experience near pro golf courses and private marinas.

There are so many all-inclusives in the DR that we got a little picky on your behalf and found the best-rated, most romantic properties for couples where we could.
We’re including travel tips and alternate destinations to make this the best all-inclusive Caribbean vacation for you two.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Puerto Plata for Couples
A nearby international airport services the Puerto Plata resort area, and Isabel de Torres National Park has stunning views of the town and coast. There is a lot of great history to explore here!
The northern coast beaches are pretty and have golden sand, although they’re not quite as renowned as those on the east and south coasts. Playa Dorada, Cofresi, and Long Beach (which is just one mile long) are most popular with tourists.
Iberostar Costa Dorada
The Iberostar Costa Dorada is a beachfront, all-inclusive resort in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Offering a blend of tropical beauty, water sports, and entertainment, it's a fantastic choice for vacationers seeking a Caribbean escape with plenty of activities and relaxation.
At the classic Iberostar Costa Dorada, you’re surrounded by pirate lore and spine-tingling history. Although it’s a family-friendly resort on a nice beach, couples who are history buffs enjoy its proximity to Puerto Plata’s natural and historical sights.
This inexpensive resort appeals to couples who don’t need a lot of frills. There is a main buffet restaurant, and guests are limited to the times they can dine a la carte during their stay, but there should be some snacks available when restaurants aren’t open.
There are three resort pools, tennis courts, and a fitness room for recreation. SPA Sensations is a newer amenity here, with services at additional cost.
Price: from $170 to $410 per night, taxes included. A three-night minimum stay is required to book online.
Wedding Pioneer Travel Tip: History lovers seeking affordable luxury should check out couples-only Sandals Grenada, which offers unlimited gourmet food and drinks, breathtaking rooms, and a wide selection of included activities. Grenada is a historical treasure!
From $313 per person per night. Check out our Sandals Grenada review.

The watersports program at this inexpensive resort is pretty extensive. The website claims that scuba diving, sailing, and windsurfing are included.

Gran Ventana Beach Resort
The Gran Ventana Beach Resort is an all-inclusive beachfront retreat located in Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. With its vibrant atmosphere, variety of dining options, and entertainment, it offers a lively and enjoyable Caribbean vacation for guests of all ages.
The accommodations at Gran Ventana Beach Resort are located in three “villages.”
This oceanfront resort has 506 rooms, including larger suites and penthouses suitable for a romantic couples getaway.
It’s a family-friendly resort, but there is one adult pool with a swim-up bar and a quiet wing for couples, including a dedicated stretch of beach with chaise lounges and towel service.
All-inclusive features include breakfast and lunches at the buffet, snacks from noon to 5 p.m. daily, and three a la carte dinner restaurants open until 10 p.m. (reservations are required, and some reviewers claim that food options are limited and sometimes unavailable).
Beverage service includes beers, wines, and cocktails (the resort’s website does not specify whether these are premium or local beverages; some reviews claim drinks are watered down).
However, the website also states that in-room minibars are refilled daily with beer, water, and soft drinks.
There’s an on-site fitness facility, and daily resort activities on land include free bike rentals (60 minutes/day), ping-pong, and tennis.
Watersports at Gran Ventana include snorkeling, windsurfing, and kayaking, and each guest can take one free SCUBA lesson.

With at least ten named beaches stretching along the eastern Dominican Republic, travelers to Punta Cana rave about the seemingly endless, powdery white sands perfect for hand-holding and strolling.
The area has an international airport for flights from North America.
Punta Cana also has a mind-numbing number of all-inclusive resorts on or near the beach, and the good news is that we found dozens of properties between Playa de Macao and Playa Blanca, rated 4.5 stars and up.
That’s why we got really picky with our selections in Punta Cana—the following all-inclusive resorts are rated 4.8 to 4.9 stars!

While the adults-only Turquesa Hotel is a two-minute walk to a breathtaking beach in Punta Cana, the facilities and amenities in this huge resort complex (shared with two other Palladium Group hotels) appear to make up for the time it will take you to stroll anywhere!
Dining at the 15 included restaurants is generally rated as a 5-star experience, and guests note that premium beverages are served at the on-site bars, including the swim-up pool bar.
There are five pools dedicated to TRS guests, a spa (services at an additional charge), and a casino for some good betting action.
Two of TRS’s most popular accommodations are the poolside romance suites and suites with swim-up access. Room features include flat-screen TVs, bathrobes and slippers, a stocked and chilled wine fridge, and a Nespresso machine.
The swim-up romance suites offer 625 square feet of space, and couples love the canopy king beds and in-room marble jacuzzi for two. The outdoor terrace is curtained for privacy, and you’ll enjoy 24-hour room service by attentive and personable butlers in these suites.
