What Is a Honeymoon Suite? (All You Need to Know)

If you’ve started planning your honeymoon, you’ve probably seen the term “honeymoon suite” on a lot of booking pages. You might be asking yourself, “what is a honeymoon suite?” or “is this room type different from another luxury room?”

Generally speaking, a honeymoon suite is the most romantic room in the resort and it’s geared towards the needs of newlyweds. These rooms tend to be secluded and offer amenities that increase the romance factor.

In addition, these suites usually have excellent views or are located in a “sanctuary,” a walled in garden space, in order to maximize your privacy.

Let’s take a look at some amenities and a few example rooms:

What Does a Honeymoon Suite Include?

Let’s start with the basics. If you are staying at a 4 or 5 star resort or hotel, your romantic suite will most likely have the following amenities (however, it’s important to check with your specific resort before making your booking):

  • Flower petals on the bed or other romantic decorations
  • A bottle of sparkling wine
  • Room service
  • A fourposter bed or a king-size bed
  • An ensuite bathroom with a shower and a bathtub
  • Air conditioning
  • An in-room bar
  • A flatscreen TV
  • An indoor seating area, dining area, and/or separate lounge area
  • Daily maid service
  • Bathrobes and slippers
  • A vanity mirror
  • A hair dryer
  • Luxury bathroom amenities
  • A laptop-size safe
  • A coffee and tea maker
  • In-room WIFI

In addition, your suite might include these special amenities:

  • Personal butler services
  • A private pool
  • A jacuzzi or spa-tub
  • Concierge service
  • A private terrace or patio
  • A rain shower
  • A pillow menu (this is list of the pillows available at the hotel so you can choose your preferred firmness)

Is the Honeymoon Suite Always the Most Luxurious?

Not necessarily. There’s a difference between luxurious and romantic, but there can be some overlap between the two in terms of rooms.

Let’s take the room offerings at Sandals Halcyon Beach as an example. The premium room category (and the most expensive) is the Joli Beachfront Walkout Butler Suite w/ Private Pool.  The current price sits at $1,020 per person per night.

This room literally sits on the beach with the sand and the aquamarine waters probably 5 steps away. It also has a private plunge pool and an open lounge area that’s also perfectly beach front.

The interior of the room features a king-size bed, stunning décor, and a soaking tub in the bathroom.

Sounds super nice, right? But, it’s also important to note that you can clearly see into this room from the beach and when people walk by they will be feet away from where you’re lounging in your private pool.

Also, the room itself isn’t very large. In short, it’s not exactly secluded and not geared towards couples who want to spend a lot of time in their suite.

On the other hand, the Beachfront Honeymoon Walkout Club Level Room w/ Patio Tranquility Soaking Tub is set farther back from the beach, with a stretch of lawn and garden separating the patio from the beachfront walking path (price: from $457 per person per night).

The room itself is larger and has a big soaking tub in the middle. There’s also a seating area and a full bar for your convenience. In comparison to the previous room type, this suite feels fully self-contained -the kind of place you could stay in for 2 days straight without leaving.

Here’s another example: the Honeymoon Butler Room w/ Private Pool Sanctuary has a large outdoor space that is almost completely walled in so you have more privacy.

This outdoor space features a waterfall cascading into the pool, bistro furniture, sun loungers, and tropical plantings. The room itself isn’t huge, but it’s a good price considering that the cost of stay starts from $349 per person per night. This room also comes with private butler services.

Is a Honeymoon Suite Worth It?

If you really like the honeymoon accommodations, then it’s definitely worth it. However, a non “honeymoon” specific room can be equally as nice. We recommend looking at the room amenities and features rather than the name of the room.

Many resorts offer honeymoon room packages as an “add-on” to any room type. Honeymoon room packages differ depending on the resort, but they often include these features:

  • Romantic room decorations
  • A bottle of sparkling wine
  • Breakfast in bed or a private dining experience
  • A congratulatory card
  • Late check-out

(Some packages also include a couple’s treatment at the resort’s spa.)

How Much Does a Honeymoon Suite Cost?

There are several factors that impact the cost, including the resort, if you’re traveling during peak season and how many days you plan to book. Keep in mind that many resorts offer discounts the longer you stay.

In general, if you’re staying at a lower cost resort or an inn, the suite will cost at least $175. While a mid-range suite will cost between $200 and $500, and a luxury suite at a high-end resort can cost upwards of $500 per night.

All-inclusive resorts are more expensive, but they also come with cost-effective inclusions, such as unlimited dining, activities, alcohol, and even excursions.
